UPCYCLE A HOODIE INTO A VEST

One day I found something interesting in the huge pile of discarded and outgrown clothes that are in my closet. It was an old hoodie that my youngest son, Marcel, used quite a long ago when he was about eleven or twelve years old.

One of the sleeves of the hoodie was only half because I used it on another sweater with gray squares.

This is the grey sweater with squares and Elvis.

Marcel was so cute when he wore the grey tiger hoodie. In this picture he has just picked up his aunt Annika at the train station. Marcel didn't know by then that I was going to cut his hoodie into pieces and upcycle it into a vest.

I wanted to turn the hoodie into a vest, so I first cut the sleeves off, I left 2 cm as seam allowance.
Then I marked 5 cm up from the neck with a chalk and cut off the rest of the hood.
After that I overlocked the cut edges. If you do not have an overlock, it is just as easy to sew zig-zag.

Fold the cut edges on the collar as much as you like. Between 1-3 cm is okay. The collar I made is 2 cm high.
I folded the sleeves exactly where the sleeves had been sewn on before, so that only a thin edge is shown.
It is best to sew using a twin needle when you fold the hem.

Voila, here is the finished vest. It is not difficult at all to sew, it goes fast and is fun.

This is a perfect easy project for the weekend: Go for a treasure hunt in your wardrobe and look for pre-loved hoodies. It is time for you to upcycle your pre-loved hoodie into a vest! Wish you good luck with your upcycling project! Let the sewing party begin!
